Christmas holidays - a great time to plan

As we look forward to the Christmas holidays and the annual closure of our businesses, it is easy to overlook the opportunities that arise while we are on our annual break. It is essential that  we all have a break and let our minds slow down and relax. Some of us can just switch off automatically and others take sometimes up to a week to wind down completely. But once we have wound down, our mind is in a great shape to be receptive to new ideas and to look forward to future.

So once you are feeling relaxed I want you to consider three things:

1. Keep your eyes open for any new ideas that may pop up arising from the activities you take part in. it might be the way a company or shop advertises its products or some in-house method of service or just simply the way you are greeted when you go into a shop.

2. If you think of anything to do with your business while you are on holiday, write it down. You don’t need to look at it then, you don’t need to think about it then, but it’s an idea that came to you and once you are back into work mode, then that is the time to perhaps to pick it up and pursue it. But if you don’t write it down you may well forget it and lose an opportunity.

3. Take a little bit of time out to plan. When your mind is relaxed and you’re not being overwhelmed with the day to day clutter, then that is the best time to plan. Just take half an hour to an hour for 2-3 days over the holiday period and plan the things you want to achieve in the coming year. Again, write them down and then file them away until you get back to work. But at least put your mind to it for a short period because you will find that you are at your most productive when you are fully relaxed

.Don’t let these three ideas take over your holiday. Just put them in perspective and you will still enjoy your break.
