By the way......

Australian marketing guru, Winston Marsh introduced me to three words that will help you to increase the average dollar value of each customer.  They are simply the words ‘By the way”. 

 

You see any time you use those words, you’re using a cushioning statement.  You’re softening the impact on something that’s going to follow.  So if you’re about to ring up the sale on the cash register you can say “by the way have you seen those widgets over there? They’re fantastic,” or if you are an accountant, “By the way have you heard about our business plan,”  or a gardener could say “By the way can I do the edges for you?”   Using “by the way” is fantastic. 

 

Oh, and by the way if you use it often enough you’ll double your turnover in no time.
